Andi Akbar Muzfa, S.H.

PERADI Advocate from Bone, South Sulawesi – A Legal Professional with a Social Mission

In Indonesia’s complex and evolving legal landscape, Andi Akbar Muzfa, S.H. stands out as a new-generation lawyer who blends legal expertise with deep social commitment. A native of Bone, South Sulawesi, he is a registered advocate under PERADI (Indonesian Bar Association), known for his courage, integrity, and tireless advocacy for justice especially for the poor and marginalized.

Educational Background Rooted in Ethics and Discipline

Born in Ujung Pandang on April 30, 1988, Andi Akbar received his early education in a religious boarding school, the Rahmatul Asri Islamic Boarding School, Enrekang (2000–2006). This foundation instilled strong ethical values and discipline.

He pursued a law degree at the Faculty of Law, Muslim University of Indonesia (UMI) Makassar (2006–2011), and later obtained a postgraduate degree in Public Administration at STISIP Muhammadiyah Rappang (2013). His academic path combined legal theory with insights into public governance, strengthening his legal reasoning and public advocacy skills.

Legal Career: From National Law Firm to Local Justice Champion

Andi Akbar began his legal career at the national level, joining Lawfirm Bertua & Co., East Jakarta (2017–2018) as a junior associate, under the leadership of Bertua Hutapea, S.H., M.H., the younger brother of Indonesia’s renowned lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea.

During his time at the firm, he gained exposure to high-profile civil, commercial, and criminal cases, working closely on litigation strategies, drafting legal opinions, and representing clients in court. This period was a formative chapter where he honed his professionalism, legal writing, and courtroom instincts.

“Working under Bertua Hutapea taught me how to combine legal precision with ethical responsibility, and how to navigate high-stakes litigation with composure,” he recalled.

In 2020, driven by a desire to serve his community, he returned to Makassar and founded his own law firm ABR & Partners, where he serves as Managing Partner. Unlike many lawyers who focus on commercial success, Andi Akbar dedicated his firm to bridging the gap between law and the underserved public.

Pro Bono Legal Services for the Poor and Working Class

Through ABR & Partners, Andi Akbar has been at the forefront of delivering legal services to the underprivileged, often offering his services pro bono or at minimal cost. His firm is known for its commitment to:

  • Family and inheritance disputes

  • Land conflicts and agrarian reform

  • Criminal defense for economically disadvantaged clients

  • Legal support for small businesses and rural cooperatives

His reputation as a “people’s lawyer” is grounded in his willingness to defend clients who are victims of injustice but lack the means to pay legal fees.

“Justice must never be a privilege of the wealthy. Law should protect those who have the least, and I see it as my duty to stand with them,” said Andi Akbar.

This commitment to legal equity has earned him wide respect in Bone, Sidrap, and surrounding areas of South Sulawesi.

Leadership in Activism and Legal Education

Throughout his student years, Andi Akbar was a prominent figure in legal and civic activism. He held leadership roles in:

  • HMI UMI Law Faculty

  • ISMAHI (Indonesian Law Student Senate Association)

  • GEMPA (Student Reform Movement)

  • SPPH (Youth Solidarity for Legal Oversight)

  • SOMASI (Anti-Corruption Student Solidarity)

These roles reflect his deep concern for justice, transparency, and youth empowerment.

He also leverages the digital space to educate the public on law, religion, and social issues, through the blogs he actively maintains:

He has served as a mentor for numerous digital communities including Celebes Blogger Community, Blogger Nusantara, and Blogger Bugis, and was elected Chairman of the Indonesian Blogger Community in 2018.

Entrepreneurial Initiatives

Aside from his legal and civic work, Andi Akbar is also a local entrepreneur. His ventures include:

  • Republik Gaul Clothing (Sidrap)

  • Boegis Fashion (Makassar)

  • Pasolle Store

  • And most recently, LAOLISU, a handcrafted sandal brand in Pinrang, promoting local creativity and employment.

Guiding Philosophy

Andi Akbar lives by a powerful motto:

"Only those who dare to face their fears can create real change."

This principle resonates through every aspect of his life from his decision to leave Jakarta’s elite law circles, to his unwavering commitment to serve ordinary citizens in legal distress.
